    Beauty Contests

"Best in show" is a term used to describe a competition or event where various animals, such as dogs or horses, or dragons, are judged and ranked based on their physical characteristics and performance. In the context of a dog show, "Best in Show" is the top honor awarded to the best overall dog among all the different breeds and categories. This prestigious award recognizes the dog that best exemplifies the ideal breed standard, which includes criteria such as appearance, movement, temperament, and overall health. Winning Best in Show is a significant achievement for any animal and its owner, as it symbolizes the culmination of years of hard work and dedication to the breed. It is also an opportunity to showcase the best characteristics of the specie to the general public and celebrate the unique bond between humans and their animal companions. Thanks to dr Black and Mao Lemieux for sharing their pretties' pictures.

    Verdant skin

"Verdant" is an adjective that describes something as green, lush, and covered in vegetation. It is often used to describe areas with abundant plant life or landscapes that are rich with greenery, such as forests, meadows, and gardens. The word "verdant" can also be used metaphorically to describe something that is fresh, new, and full of life. For example, a writer might describe a young artist's work as "verdant" to convey that it is innovative and full of promise. Mystical Creatures released the first Legendary Edition Celebrating St. Patrick's Day! It's the 2023 Legendary Edition - Lucky Clover released on March 14, 2023, and available until March 28th. We got the the Verdant skin hidden into those LEs this lovely yellow and green combinations. Congratulations to all those that already have gotten their Verdants, and good luck to those still trying it!

    Pricing

There is a constant debate about pricing. What should be the fair price for a new trait, or a regular dragon egg? Should prices be fixed or regulated? Should price cutters be banned from the market? There is a principle in microeconomics; the supply and demand curves determine the price. And despite any asymmetries in the long term, prices tend to be equilibrium. Pretty, but it doesn't help us at all. If someone cuts the price of a new trait, and other sellers, in panic, follow the trend, the long-term equilibrium is already too late. So what would be a fair price? It is a price the seller isn't pressuring buyers to get it right now as a once-in-a-lifetime bargain! It is a price it doesn't bother if it doesn't sell immediately because the revenues of it aren't needed to pay rent, buy food, or anything like that, and the seller can wait to find a buyer eager to pay for his dragon. Some breeders are doing it for fun. They had never gone to an auction. They don't list their dragons in classifieds and go to markets to buy what they need. On the other hand, there are those breeding for profits. Both choices are ok; they aren't mutually exclusive. As Mystical Creatures attends to all of them, considering the hypothesis it should regulate market prices makes no sense. But of course, Mystical creatures want the best for all breeders and want to help them to enjoy breeding, selling, buying, and even gartering their stuff. If you find something too cheap and buy it, you are encouraging the seller's attitude. If you have a pretty dragon that took months to create, don't sell it at any price; value all the effort, time, and costs you invested in it. And if you were lucky to get a new trait everyone wants now, why would you underrate it and give someone a chance to profit on your back? It's your dragon, and you can do whatever you want! But others are seeing it and labeling your attitude. You choose your way and define how you're going to be recognized by your fellows.

    Boast your creativity!

I'm creating a space in my Connection to show off projects our fellow breeders are developing with their dragons. At least once a month, this page will be dedicated to showing off any projects submitted with pictures and a brief description of the intention, even if the project is still in progress. To participate, send me a notecard inworld with all the information I need to disclose your project. Projects already approved bu the Mystical Creatures Market Owners Coalition will have precedence over others because they were already recognized as yours by a board. I hope you guys like the idea and will send me enough material to publish lots of your projects. Submit your notecards to Lisbeth Placebo, adding your SL name, your display name, your project name, all traits you have or wish in your dragon, and a high-quality picture. The more photos you add, the better! And don't panic if I take some time to publish yours; as I said before, I'm hoping to get many notecards, and in time I will disclose them all. e.g.: sent by Morgan in Mystical Creatures discord group Dragoness Skin: Fruzayl Element: Air Eye: Fire Ceondet Claws: Water Gayvrenth Horn: Spikes Horn Pigment: Brimstone Ornament: Spikes Ornament Pigment: Water Gayvrenth Marking: Mutation Pine Lacing

    Walkthrough

Have you known there is a walkthrough at Mystical Creatures Home sim? It explains in detail all you need to know about absorbable and edibles. Sixteen stations cover what they are and how they affect your dragons. You get information from the Nexus Crystal to the potion of healing. You maybe know already what those are for and how and when to use them. But there are always new breeders joining the Mystical Creatures family. And when "noobies;" ask you for help, you can direct them to the walkthrough so they can learn the basics. Remember, we are close to the 2.0 version update. It's expected new joiners to the Mystical Creatures World, so paying a visit to the walkthrough can improve your knowledge and help others to develop solid fundamentals. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/The Mystical Creatures/121/153/32 Other sources of knowledge at your disposal are Ava's dragon course, seven classes from basic to advanced dragon breeding tips, and the website, but you are already here.

    Avoiding Bugs!!!

It's tempting to use the Second Life viewer's Edit tool to organize your dragons and distribute food and wellsprings, but there is an actual risk something goes wrong. The truth is; there are many sensors involved in the communication system between your dragons, the Nexus Chrystal, and consumables, and moving them in-world may bug their scripts. The safest way to avoid your dragons from stopping eating is to take the item you want to your inventory, then rez it where you want it. After that, you can use edit for fine-tuning, but avoid moving it more than 5 meters. A last trick is to reset the scripts after moving your dragon or any consumable. How to do it? Food and wellsprings: click the object and select any of the three options (Owner Only, Group Only, All). Dragons: click it and change Mobility (Environment>Mobility).

    Horns

At Mystical Creatures' launching in September 2021, starter dragons came with four different horn styles. Each one is respective to the four element classes. The starter earth dragon, Xumenth, had curved stone horns. The Xaytud, from the air element class, had feathers decorating its head. Gaywrent represented the water element and held hydrodynamic fins. And the fire representative, Zuldrud, displayed long, pointy, and sharp horns. Later, on April 15, 2022, Mystical Creatures released the 2022 Legendary Edition - Elegant Zephyr. This Legendary Edition gave us a new horn style. Zephyr, honoring Ζέφυρος (Greek), or Zephyrus (Latin), the mythological god of the west wind. The Zephyr style is an air-element horn. And the last addition to the horn styles is the Antlers from the 2022 Legendary Edition -Dashing Reindeer. We all know an update is coming soon, and I hope the horn styles collection increases!
  12. Did you know you can preset all configurations of your dragons so the moment the eggs hatch, they automatically receive all settings? To do that, all you need is a Dragon Environment Manipulator. All your dragons on the same sim will respect the behaviors you preset in this tool. It's a free tool you can find at any Mystical Creatures store, and if you want to save time and headaches, I recommend using it. Now let's have a quick look at how it works. Once you click your Dragon Environment Manipulator, it shows a menu: Mobility Text Sounds Perimeter Home setting Breath DEM Text Choose the environment behavior you want to set up and choose active or inactive. Mobility defines if your dragons will walk around randomly or stand still. The text option turns your dragons' text on or off. The same happens for sounds; you can choose on or off. When you click Perimeter, a message like this will show in your local chat "Set the Perimeter in local chat (channel 0) or use 0 to disable change". Remember you must type /0 before the perimeter entry to use channel 0. The home setting sets the home to all your dragons. Breath turns your dragon's breathing effect on or off. The DEM Text option allows you to choose if you want all your settings to show as a floating text above your DEM. The DEM isn't a new tool to most dragons' breeders, but I hope it clarifies how to use it right. And that this connection reaches those who didn't know about its use.

    Crafting

Crafting is a "side quest" in dragon breeding. It isn't part of the breeding game, so it's not mandatory in the process, though it is fun and enjoyable entertainment. What do you need to craft? A forge, a blueprint of what you will make, resources, Ascension Points, and a catalyzer. The Leyline forge is a free item at any Mystical Creatures store. All other products are the fruit of digging. It doesn't mean you need to dig yourself, as most people don't have the time or patience to work them all. There is a market of dig items you can trade or buy what you miss or need. Examples of items you can craft are chests, backpacks, plushies, horns, and more. Some blueprints are perennial; others are seasonal and themed. Those seasonal items become more desired and valuable, even becoming a trend. Resources are raw materials (Wood, Stone, Chittin, Clay, and Crystal), fabrics (Cotton, Wool, Leather, Silk, and Gossimer), and metals (Copper, Iron, Gold, Mithril, Orichalcum). Glowing Orb and Soul Gem are catalysts you may need in your crafting; not all crafting will require catalyzers. Now the crafting guide, a little algorithm you must follow: Make sure that your Mystical Dragons HUD is attached, rezz out your Leyline Forge, your Blueprint, and any Catalyst you need Click the Blueprint you will see in the local chat: Leyline Forge: Blueprint: detected, checking for ingredients ... If you do not have all ingredients, the forge will tell you what you need in the chat. If you have all ingredients needed, they will show on your HUD in the Blueprint box. Choose which items to use by clicking them in the resources box; once you select them, a Craft button will appear at the top of your HUD, click the craft button, and you will see the following in local chat: Mystical Dragons ~Leyline Forge~: Attempting to consume items ... Mystical Dragons ~Leyline Forge~: Consuming item Blueprint Mystical Dragons ~Leyline Forge~: Congratulations! You have crafted! This item has been sent to you inworld; please check your inventory! Your objects folder in your inventory receives the crafted item, and the Blueprint and Catalyst used will disappear. If there is any reason you don't want to craft or cancel the process, click your Leyline Forge and then click cancel. It -terminates the process; and you can start your next craft.
  14. We all have a favorite dragon; we are so fond and proud of it. But those pretties have a terrible habit of getting older every day. You invest a lot of work, L$ breeding multiple traits till you get the perfect one, and once they reach 100 days old, they become Ancient Dragons. They can't reproduce anymore and live to eat. Now, you can change the food to Arid Crystals, a cheaper option for non-breedable dragons, but there is an even better solution. Mystic Creatures offers an absorbable to eternalize your masterpiece! the Mystical Charm of Eternity It makes an Ancient Dragon so that it will not require crystals anymore. All other normal functions for an Ancient Dragon will still operate normally. It only works for Ancient Dragons (older than 100 days old) and can be used for both genders. After Your dragon absorbs a Charm, its hover text will say Immortal instead of Ancient. Instructions: 1. Open boxed Mystical Charm of Eternity and rez next to the dragon you wish to become Immortal. 2. Click the dragon and go to the Absorbable option on the menu. 3. Find Eternity from the options on the menu and click it. Once the dragons' stats update, the Mystical Charm of Eternity will disappear. ATTENTION: THIS IS AN IRREVERSIBLE PROCESS. THERE IS NO WAY TO REVERT IT!

    Auctions Etiquette

Hello, my fellow breeders. I know this is not new for most of you, but there is always someone new joining our community that can profit from some little bits of advice. To start, let's talk about timing. Try to arrive a few minutes before the auction begins; it's not because your name is down on the list you should come late. Remember, your fellows are trying to sell their dragons too, and one of them could be offering just the one you need. The same applies to leaving right after your panel. It's not just inelegant but disrespectful to the auctioneer and the audience. Again, others are there for the same reason you are. Give them the same chance they gave you. Now a sensible subject is pricing. Don't offer the same dragons someone else tried to sell before you for half the price they were asking. That is not a smart move and will not make others see you as a great dealer. The effect is the opposite. They will see you as a market crasher and will avoid buying your stuff in the long term. Also, don't be ashamed if you don't know how much to ask for your items; ask your auctioneer before the auction starts; they are very involved with market prices and are the best to help you. And at last, tipping. Don't forget to tip your auctioneer after you sell something. Auctioneers work only for tips. They try hard to sell every offer in an auction. Recognizing their effort to sell your stuff is fair and elegant, so tip 10% every time you sell something. Sometimes even if you don't sell, and if you notice a special treatment to your panel, it's a good practice to tip the auctioneer. Any small tip is appreciated. Bina, Sparrow, Ava, Maggie, Jaded, Drae, and other auctioneers are giving up their fun time to help to sell your stuff.
  17. Last Christmas, Mystical Creatures decided to show their appreciation for all customers with a surprise. All active breeders were eligible to reclaim a special dragon egg. I guess we will have to wait a bit more to discover them, but I'm sure Mystical Creatures reserved some flabbergasting stuffs!
  18. The Mutation Mulberry Ripple is one of my favorite markings. Its fascinating color adds a perfect touch to a dragon's skin. After some research, I found an intriguing myth regarding the origins of the mulberries' dark color I want to share with you. Pyramus and Thisbe are two lovers in Babylon city who occupy connected houses. Their respective parents, driven by rivalry, forbid them to wed. They whisper their love for each other through a crack in the wall. They agree to meet near a tomb under a mulberry tree and state their feelings for each other. Thisbe arrives first, but upon seeing a lioness with a bloody mouth from a recent kill, she flees, leaving behind her cloak. When Pyramus arrives, he is horrified at the sight of Thisbe's cloak: the lioness had torn it and left traces of blood behind, as well as its tracks. Assuming a beast has killed her, Pyramus kills himself, falling on his sword, a typical Babylonian way to commit suicide. And, in turn, splashing blood on the white mulberry leaves. Pyramus's blood stains the white mulberry fruits, turning them dark. Thisbe returns, eager to tell Pyramus what had happened to her, but she finds Pyramus's dead body under the shade of the mulberry tree. Thisbe, after praying to their parents and the gods to have them buried together, and during a brief period of mourning, stabs herself with the same sword. In the end, the gods listen to Thisbe's lament and forever change the color of the mulberry fruits into the stained color to honor forbidden love. Pyramus and Thisbe proved to be faithful lovers to each other until the very end. Did you recognize another famous tragedy? Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is inspired by Pyramus and Thisbe myth. There were other adaptations of the same tale in Boccacio's Decameron. Chaucer, in his Legend of Good Women, and John Gower, in his Confessio Amantis, were the first ones to tell the story in English.
